The Washington Redskins have started three different quarterbacks this season, and now head coach Jay Gruden doesn’t know which one to start.

In his first game back from a dislocated ankle, Robert Griffin III couldn’t lead his Washington Redskins to a win over the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, losing 29-26 to rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Griffin went 18 for 28 for 251 yards, a touchdown and an interception plus 24 yards on seven carries. He was also sacked five times.

Earlier in the season when Griffin was injured, Kirk Cousins was elevated to the starter. He lost the job to Colt McCoy, who played in two games for Washington before Griffin returned.

Despite the inconsistency of Washington’s quarterback situation, the team is still ranked sixth in the NFL in passing yards per game.

Cousins was the inactive third string Sunday, replaced by McCoy as the backup despite starting the year as the second string quarterback. Even though Griffin is back, coach Jay Gruden isn’t sure who he will name the starter for the team’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday.

The answer should be Griffin. Griffin wasn’t great in his first game back, but he wasn’t horrible either. Let him start and give him some time to get back in the swing of things.

That said, Gruden didn’t draft Griffin and his unwillingness to stick by him marks a lack of trust in the former Heisman winner. He has no ties to him, and so has no reason to stick with him besides him being a better option.

The Skins are already 3-6 and are a long shot to make the playoffs anyway, just let Griffin play.
