WWE Network Delays Launch In England Without Cause
Minutes before the launch of WWE Network in England, the company announced it would be delayed until further notice, marking the latest hit for the Network.
Just when it appeared that WWE fans in England would begin to relish in the E’s Network, Vince McMahon and company pulled the plug without warning in a manner that must have felt like a no-decision in a WWE title match for those across the Atlantic. Making matters worse, WWE tweeted the news without giving any explanation (which kind of sounds like how they’re handling not having Brock Lesnar on TV, eh?).
Call it the English Screwjob or however you want to call it, Monday’s delay is just the latest RKO delivered to WWE Network, whose numbers have fallen way short of expectations since launching earlier this year.
Despite a friendly $9.99 monthly fee (with a six-month subscription, which has since been scrapped), the WWE Network allows subscribers access to a seemingly endless vault of pro wrestling (oops, sports entertainment) history, including monthly pay-per-view events.
Since the launch, numbers have been extremely slow to the point where McMahon announced last week that first time subscribers would be able to sample the network for free during the month of November, including the Survivor Series pay per view.
As for WWE’s English fans, there is no set time for when the network will reset. Making matters more awkward for WWE is that it is touring Europe this month, which will feel like anything but a goodwill tour.
