Following his plea deal today, a remorseful Adrian Peterson left the courtroom looking now towards his return to the NFL playing field.

More from Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings saw Adrian Peterson reach a plea deal today with the Montgomery Country District Attorney, and instead of a felony, was handed a much lesser charge. Now with the court proceedings behind him, he can move forward and look to get back on the field. First however, he reflected on the situation.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the tone from Peterson was one of regret and understanding. Having been through what he has the past few months, it would make sense that he would have learned some valuable lessons from the situation.

As things still continue to unfold, it remains to be seen what kind of action the NFL will take on the matter. However, at this point, the boy’s mother still wants to make sure that Adrian Peterson is in her son’s life.

Peterson has had a relatively clean track record thus far through both his collegiate and professional career, and while a major transgression, this should not be easily forgotten. For Peterson, the timing couldn’t have been worse on the heels of the Ray Rice news. He also was judged heavily in the court of public opinion, and saw the ramifications of that come full circle.

Look for this incident to continue to help Peterson grow as both a person and a man. Hopefully this is an instance that brings with it the understanding of what more could have taken place, or what may if things don’t change.

Both Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings will now await the next steps from the NFL.
