By Evan Massey

Each offseason in every professional sport, there are players that either consider retirement or actually follow through and call it a career. Former star outfielder Alfonso Soriano decided today to hang up his cleats and end a very successful MLB career. He had quite a few different ups and downs throughout his career, but he is ending it with a very successful 16 years.

Soriano ended up playing in 1,975 total games throughout his career, and smacked 412 home runs to go along with 1,159 RBI’s and a .270 batting average.
Those numbers are very solid, but the batting average definitely could have been better. He was always very professional with how he conducted himself both on and off the field, and will be missed on major league diamonds. It’s always a sad day when a player that has been around the game as long as Soriano has decides to step away from the game.
That being said, he had a successful career and it was time to step away. He simply wasn’t able to make the type of impact on games that he wanted to, and decided to go ahead and call it a career before things got work.
When everything is said and done, Soriano had a very successful career and will be remembered. He was able to put together some huge statistical seasons and be one of the better power hitters in the game throughout the middle of his career. There were some rough patches later on in his career, but for the most part he made positive impacts on each team that he played with.
