Reports are stating that the St. Louis Cardinals are planning to target left-handed reliever Andrew Miller in MLB free agency.

The St. Louis Cardinals are entering an offseason where they are looking to make a move or two to bolster their bullpen and lineup for a run next season. Andrew Miller is one of the better relief pitchers out on the free agent market and there are reports coming out that the Cardinals plan to make a run at him.

Miller had a solid season last year split between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox. He recorded an ERA of 2.02 in 62.1 innings, and a 103/17 K/BB ratio. Needless to say, those numbers are solid and would be a very nice addition for the Cardinals to make to their bullpen.

It’s very possible that the Cardinals end up bringing the talented Marco Gonzales out of the bullpen, but they could still use another veteran in the pen alongside of Randy Choate. Miller’s health has been a concern throughout his career, but when he’s healthy there is no question that he is an extremely consistent pitcher with.

That being said, it will be intriguing to see what the Cardinals end up doing this offseason. They have plenty of talent on their roster, but there are upgrades that could be made to both the bullpen and lineup. Miller would be a good start, depending on how much money he would be asking for to sign in St. Louis.

Expect to hear of plenty more teams showing interest in Miller as free agency gets underway. The Cardinals are certainly going to be talking with him about a possible deal, but there are many other teams out there that could use a strong left-handed reliever. St. Louis would be smart to lock him up at the right price if they can do so early on in free agency.
