The Arizona Cardinals are extremely thankful for players like Tommy Kelly and they’d like to thank Bill Belichick for him.

The year 2014 has seen a huge resurgence in the Arizona Cardinals and it can be attributed to several things. On one hand, the energy and leadership provided by head coach Bruce Arians is one. He is a risk taker that believes fully in his players. Another could definitely be seen in how this cast of characters was assembled by the Cardinals’ front office. One of them being 33-year old defensive tackle Tommy Kelly.

It’s players such as Kelly that have come in and helped to re-energize this organization and its fanbase to the tune of a current 7-1 record. Fresh off of a win against the Dallas Cowboys in AT&T Stadium, the Cardinals are all smiles and enjoying this ride. What Arizona has done well this offseason was to scout wonderfully finding what other teams deemed as throwaways and turning them into solid contributors.

They even have a message for New England Patriots‘ coach Bill Belichick.

“Tell Bill (Belichick) I said, ‘Thank you,’ ” said Brentson Buckner, the Cardinals’ defensive line coach to NFL.com. “Kelly’s been great for us. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

You can’t really get more succinct than that. Although I’m not sure I’d refer to a man of Kelly’s physical build as “trash”. His point was made, though. Kelly has come to Arizona a renewed man and it shows.

“They say everything happens for a reason,” said Kelly to NFL.com. “I’m happy…they work me hard but they treat me nice … and no snow! It’s a great group. We believe in each other. We believe in our scheme. And even with some big-time losses, we still feel we’ve got enough to get it done.”

Well said, Tommy. The Cardinals now sit with the best record in the NFC and are complete control of their own destiny.
