Given some of their close calls, Florida State has taken some flack for maybe not being all that good. Legendary FSU coach Bobby Bowden has a response to the criticism.

The Florida State Seminoles are undefeated and the No. 2 ranked team in the country. However, they’ve not been nearly as dominant as they were last season, which has led many to speculate that the defending national champions may not be all that good. Bobby Bowden is not one of these people.

On the other side of the argument are the people that believe the Seminoles are finally putting it all together with their young talent and are better than they appear to be, and Bowden, who led Florida State to two national championships in his legendary career, is one of these folks.

“I think Florida State is a lot better than people think,” Bowden told The Tallahassee Democrat Tuesday afternoon.

Most recently the Seminoles needed to come from 21-0 down on the road in Louisville to keep their undefeated season and College Football Playoff hopes alive. Instead of criticizing the way Florida State won that game like some have, Bowden pointed to it as an example of why the ‘Noles are so good.

“They keep kind of counting them out. Until somebody can beat them, I don’t know who it’s going to be. When you give somebody 21 points like Louisville, which has an excellent defense, then scores 42. There ain’t many teams that can do that now.”
