It’s become pretty clear over the last few years that playing quarterback for the New York Jets isn’t easy. They’ve gone through several quarterbacks and haven’t really had proper weapons to work with. That isn’t necessarily because of a lack of trying (Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes and Eric Decker).
Whatever the reason (it’s likely a combination of many), it has become a quarterback wasteland. Former New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Drew Bledsoe made an interesting comparison.
“Going to play quarterback for the Jets … it’s kind of like, you know when they used to take the pretty young virgin up to the edge of the volcano and then just throw them in?” Bledsoe said on ESPN Radio via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “That’s kind of what it is when you play quarterback for the Jets. It just feels bad.”
That’s why he feels for current Philadelphia Eagles and former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled with the Jets and could flourish with the Jets.
“Mark had to live with that for a long time,” Bledsoe added. “And people threw him under the bus like he was the whole reason for the demise of the Jets.
“To see him be able to come on to the field in a good system, with good talent and perform well, I’m just really happy for him.”
Sanchez came in for an injured Nick Foles and completed 15-of-22 passes for 202 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 31-21 win over the Houston Texans.
With Foles out 4-6 weeks with a broken clavicle, we’ll see if Sanchez can keep it up.
