According to a report from NorthJersey.com, former New York Giants‘ offensive lineman Luke Pettigout has been charged with sexual assault.
"“Mr. Pettigout denies the allegations. The allegations are baseless. We intend to vigorously defend against the charges in court.”Pettigout, who has been out of football for about six years, had been arrested in New York last year after his wife accused him of hitting her, according to The New York Post. Those charges were later dropped. The Post reported that Pettigout’s wife filed for divorce this year after the former NFL player was charged in June with assaulting a man that his wife had been talking to at a bar. The assault charge in that case is pending, according to New York court records."
Needless to say, hearing these types of stories about former NFL players is extremely concerning. More things have come out this offseason about the NFL their players off the field than many would have expected.
That being said, one can only hope that these allegations or false, but at least either way they will have found out the truth. Pettigout played college football at Notre Dame and played in nine NFL seasons. He played with the Giants for eight of those seasons, and finished his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
There will be more information that comes out about this case over the next few weeks. It has been a very disappointing season so far for NFL fans, and one can only hope that players will stop conducting themselves these ways with the increased publicity.
