Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson reached a plea agreement on Tuesday and the team has issued a statement on his current status.

On Tuesday, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson plead no contest to one count of misdemeanor reckless assault in order to avoid jail time for the child abuse incident involving one of his children.

For Peterson, his no contest plea allowed him to avoid jail time for his crime and he must now serve 80 hours of community service, pay a $4,000 fine, attend parenting classes and spend two years on probation.

Now that Peterson’s legal issues are resolved, the NFL will need to gather all of the facts and determine whether Peterson will be allowed back on the field.

As far as the Minnesota Vikings, they will sit back and allow the league to make their decision before determining their stance on their star running back. That was clear in a statement released by the team following Peterson’s court appearance in Texas.

“The Vikings are aware of today’s plea agreement involving Adrian Peterson. We will have further comment at the appropriate time,” the Vikings said in their statement.

It is about as standard of a statement as a team could release, but it is the stance the Vikings had to currently take in order to allow them to get all of their ducks in a row and avoid putting themselves in a situation where they would have to eventually backtrack again.
