The New York Giants

were embarrassed by the Indianapolis Colts 40-24 on their home field Monday Night

but that may not have been the worst thing that happened.

The Giants lost cornerback Prince Amukamara for the rest of the season to a torn right bicep.

“That’s not a good one, Prince has played well,’’ coach Tom Coughlin said via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “That was a blow to lose him.’’

Coughlin explained that Amukamara would need surgery and would miss the remainder of the season. Amukamara, the 19th-overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, had played well this season, recording 45 tackles and three interceptions. Amukamara was banged up during his first two season but played in every game in 2013. The Giants signed Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the offseason, hoping to form one of the league’s best cornerback duos. Instead, Amukamara is out for the season and Rodgers-Cromartie continues to play through injuries of his own (back, hamstring).

The Giants have already lost two other cornerbacks,  Walter Thurmond and Trumaine McBride, for the season.

The Giants had to turn to Jayron Hosley and Zack Bowman at cornerback and Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck quickly exploited that weakness.

This is just one of the many impact players the Giants have lost. Amukamara joins Victor Cruz (knee), Walter Thurmond III (pectoral) and Jon Beason (foot).

It won’t get any easier – the Giants will hit the road to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks Sunday.
