Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was very adamant about believing that they were his team to lead back to the NFL playoffs.

The Washington Redskins plugged quarterback Robert Griffin III back into the starting lineup last week, and came away with a 29-26 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings. Griffin played a solid game, but still wasn’t able to lead his team to a victory or play with the type of playmaking ability that he did in his rookie season.

It isn’t likely that Griffin will ever be able to play at the same level as far as playmaking that he was at in his rookie year, but his arm is still more than capable of coming through in a big way for Washington.

Griffin has been dealing with quite a bit of criticism over the past couple of seasons, but he is very adamant that the Redskins are still his team to lead. Kirk Cousins was unable to make anything over his opportunity to start this year when Griffin went down with injury, but Colt McCoy didn’t look bad at all in his limited playing time.

“There’s no doubt there. This is my team and I’m going to lead it.” – Robert Griffin III

From ESPN.com:

“I understand everybody has a criticism. But you have to prove yourself every day in this league. I take that mindset toward it, but when it comes to being the franchise guy … I believe that I am. I believe this organization knows that I am and I know those guys in the locker room believe that I am. I don’t ever step onto the field trying to make a claim saying, ‘I’m the guy.’ No, it’s not like that.”

Injuries have become a very big issue in Griffin’s young career, and staying healthy hasn’t been too easy for him. He came into the NFL with a very aggressive offensive mindset and was too willing to take big hits, but now the injuries are happening on freak plays.

All of that being said, he has the potential to turn things back around and be the leader that he is talking about again. If that is going to happen, however, it will all depend on whether or not he is able to stay on the field and healthy.

Washington obviously still believes that Griffin is capable of being their franchise quarterback, but they aren’t going to stick with him too much longer if he is unable to stay healthy and consistent. They will continue giving him chances to turn his career back around to the star potential it had in his rookie year, but he has to begin leading them back to wins in the near future.
