“The Ol’ Ball Coach” Steve Spurrier draws some inspiration for the South Carolina Gamecocks and their coaching staff from Taylor Swift lyrics.
Steve Spurrier is closing in on his 70’s, but he is showing a more youthful side in order to motivate the South Carolina Gamecocks, who are in a dark place after losing four of their last five games this season.

After the team’s latest loss — which came at the hands of the Tennessee Volunteers — Steve Spurrier quoted the one and only Taylor Swift as a way of telling his coaching staff to keep their heads held high and focus on what is yet to come.
“I was telling our coaching staff, I think Taylor Swift’s got a song called ‘Shake it Off.’ Ugh,” Spurrier said, via SportsIllustrated.com.
We aren’t sure whether the “ugh” referred to Spurrier’s frustration with the team losing four of five or his utter hatred for the song he had just quoted.
“That’s what we’re trying to do, shake it off and get ready for the Florida Gators next week. That’s what we’re going to try to do, see if we can regroup and try to win a close game,” Spurrier added.
Hopefully Steve Spurrier’s little rah-rah speech will be able to inspire the Gamecocks to turn things around.
At the very least, it should go better than Swift’s rah-rah attempt in the “Shake It Off” video.

Ugh.
