Coach K offers a pretty candid take on his star basketball recruit Jahlil Okafor.

Duke has one of the strongest recruiting classes in the nation coming onto the hardwood this season. Two freshmen highlight that class in Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor. Okafor comes in as the number one recruit in the nation, and he is likely going to leave in a year under just as much of a frenzied storm.

Both Okafor and Jones have played together on AAU teams and it was widely known that they would be going to the same college as somewhat of a package deal. With Tyus Jones locking down the backcourt for Duke, it will be on Okafor to rise to the occasion in the front court.

At this point though, that doesn’t appear to be a concern in the slightest. Despite being a freshman, Okafor has been named to the preseason All-American team, and many predict him to be a top pick in next year’s NBA draft lottery. You can count Duke’s Coach K among those in agreement.

While it’s not exactly going out on a limb, normally you are relatively hard pressed to find anyone not named John Calipari be so candid in regards to a player’s likely intentions.

Okafor and Jones will be looking to make a deep National Title run for the Blue Devils and then will likely both set their sights on greener pastures. While Tyus is no sure thing to bolt after one season, Okafor is a forgone conclusion.

Having seen Tyus play multiple times in person, including playing against Okafor at Apple Valley High School a year ago, these two are going to be a lot of fun to watch for the Blue Devils.
