Jacksonville Jaguars fans needn’t worry about the left wrist of rookie quarterback Blake Bortles, who dismissed reports that it was sprained. Even better for the Jags: Bortles remains just as confident as he was when he was named the starter, a good sign heading into Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys as the two teams conclude the 2014 edition of the International Series.
“It’s fine – it’s 100 percent,” said Bortles of his wrist during a media session in London’s Grove Hotel.
With the wrist issue out of the way, Bortles also made it clear that his confidence remains the same as it was from the moment the Jaguars named him the starting quarterback prior to the week three game against the Indianapolis Colts. The stats certainly don’t show in his results, as Bortles has thrown 13 interceptions compared to eight touchdowns.
His trial by fire has been very hot over the past three weeks. Bortles has thrown eight interceptions in that span, including one in the closing minutes of last week’s game at Cincinnati which killed the remaining momentum the offense had established during a fourth quarter comeback that brought the Jaguars within 26-23.
“I just have to continue to learn from mistakes,” he said. There are a lot of things that can be beneficial, good or bad, as long as you learn from them and take them the right way.”
