Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after he tallied 158 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the team’s 31-21 win over the Houston Texans.

Even the presence of Mark Sanchez couldn’t hold back receiver Jeremy Maclin, who exploded in Week 9 with six catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns, including a 59-yard touchdown from starter Nick Foles and a 52-yard touchdown catch and run from Sanchez, who replaced the injured Foles. As a result, Maclin has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, per PFT.

It was the second straight week in which Maclin exceeded 150 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. He now has eight touchdowns and 790 yards on the 2014 season.

Maclin has blossomed in the absence of DeSean Jackson, who many credited as the team’s top receiver. That may still have been the case had Jackson remained in Philadelphia, but it doesn’t look like anyone is going to be missing the speedster thanks to the 2014 season Maclin is having.

The Eagles will need their top receiver to remain as big as he’s been of late as Mark Sanchez will be the team’s quarterback for the foreseeable future, which will likely put more pressure on the receivers to perform. Teams could very well stack up against the run in an effort to put the game in Sanchez’s hand.

Jeremy Maclin tallied 12 catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns in Philadelphia’s 24-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. If he can continue his torrid pace, he will almost certainly outplay the one year $5.5 million contract he received last offseason following a 2013 season in which Maclin tore his ACL and missed the entire season as a result.
