The 2014 Heisman Watch is in full swing and the competition has long been between two quarterbacks from vastly different teams. Dak Prescott finds himself on a very good
team currently in command of the SEC. Marcus Mariota leads the way in the PAC 12 and provides the spark for the Ducks offense. This week, he also overtakes the top of the
.
With Marcus Mariota moving into the top spot, Dak Prescott is dropped into second for the first time in weeks. Mariota led the Oregon Ducks to a convincing victory over the Stanford Cardinal, his first victory in his career over the rival. Prescott was once again a little off in his passing, throwing two interceptions and the game-winning touchdown in a 17-10 victory over Arkansas.
Here is how ESPN has the poll currently shaking out:
Name | Position | School | Year | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | Total |
Marcus Mariota | QB | Oregon | Jr. | 7 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 47 |
Dak Prescott | QB | Miss. State | Jr. | 3 | 5 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 38 |
Melvin Gordon | RB | Wisconsin | Jr. | 0 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 2 | 24 |
Amari Cooper | WR | Alabama | Jr. | 0 | 0 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 15 |
Trevone Boykin | QB | TCU | Jr. | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 2 | 8 |
Everett Golson | QB | Notre Dame | Sr. | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 7 |
Duke Johnson | RB | Miami (FL) | Jr. | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 4 |
Jameis Winston | QB | Florida State | So. | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 4 |
Nick Marshall | QB | Auburn | Sr. | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 3 |
Although Mariota and Prescott are running away with the top two spots, there is a handful of big names following them. Melvin Gordon has laid waste to Big Ten defenses this year literally running over the competition. For Amari Cooper, each game has been full of gaudy stat lines despite a typical top notch Alabama quarterback.
Somewhat surprising is that Tevin Coleman still finds himself off of the board. Despite playing for a bad Indiana team, he has racked up ridiculous amounts of yards this season, and continues to be amongst the most impressive running backs in the nation.
