The Montreal Canadiens broke their losing streak, but not by a large margin

For a team that started off the season with absolute dominance, the Montreal Canadiens have lost their footing heading into November.

More from Buffalo Sabres

After surging to the top of the Atlantic Division, the Canadiens fell off with a loss, overtime shootout victory, then three more consecutive losses. The team hasn’t won a game in regulation or sudden death overtime since October 25th, when the team took home a 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

Shutouts by the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks hurt the team, but don’t think that tonight’s victory was much of a reassurance for the struggling franchise. The Canadiens, who possess such dynamic talent as Max Pacioretty, PK Subban, and Carey Price- not to mention newcomer in net Dustin Tokarski, who started Wednesday night- only beat the Buffalo Sabres in the shootout, 2-1.

The team could attribute part of the struggle to the having to face two former Canadiens players in the Buffalo squad, as Buffalo’s captain Brian Gionta wore the ‘C’ in Montreal last season and skated alongside defenseman Josh Gorges. Yet, the team has little to no excuse for it’s lack of ability to net more than two goals in any game since October 25th.

The Canadiens still sit in first in the Atlantic Division, but would lose a tiebreaker for Regular and Overtime wins against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, AND Detroit Red Wings. Not exactly reassuring for the Montreal franchise.

The team will next play on Saturday, when they face the Minnesota Wild. Hopefully, they can begin to turn things around.
