Eddie Lacy and Keenan Allen were two of the best rookies from last season, and now young receivers like Sammy Watkins and Kelvin Benjamin are stealing the show.
The 2013 NFL draft didn’t have a lot of excitement, but 2014 has brought a large amount of great talent.
The standout position from this draft has been wide receiver, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise since the league has become all about passing. Speaking of passing, Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater appear to be better than E.J. Manuel and Geno Smith, but they still aren’t among the most impressive rookies in my book.
Before I get into my five best rooks, here are the players that just missed out – but they are on the rise.
Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham didn’t see any action until a month ago due to injury, but he hasn’t wasted any time since he’s been playing.
Victor Cruz had his season cut short in Beckham’s second game, and that has allowed Beckham to steal the show.
In the two games post-Cruz, Beckham caught 12 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
He appears to be “the guy” for the New York Giants now, and good things area ahead.
Brandin Cooks
As a new receiver in the NFL, Cooks couldn’t have asked for a better situation than being drafted by the New Orleans Saints.
Cooks currently has 43 catches for 410 yards and two touchdowns through eight games, but he has yet to put two strong games together. It seems like after he has a big game, he comes back the following week and is held in check.
Drew Brees and the Saints really love Cooks, and as long as he is in that offense he will continue to have great opportunities.
