This summer, Patrick Beverley told Chris Bosh the Houston Rockets needed him during free agency and his pitch was pretty blunt.

It’s not often NBA players do away with their pride in a time of need. When it came to the Houston Rockets attempting to make that jump from good to great, point guard Patrick Beverly had no problem recruiting then-free agent Chris Bosh as he basically pleaded for the two-time NBA champion to join them.

"Patrick Beverley told me b4 game that he recruited Bosh. What’d he say? “We need you.” But added that Rockets r happy w/ who they have now. — Ethan J. Skolnick (@EthanJSkolnick) November 5, 2014"

Looking at how Chris Bosh has started the 2014-15 season, you can’t blame Beverly. In four games, Bosh is averaging 24.5 points (8th in the NBA) on and 10.5 rebounds per game. While Terrance Jones has shown promise at power forward, a trio of Bosh, Dwight Howard, and James Harden could’ve been the best in the NBA, and a lead contender to win the NBA Finals in June of 2015.

Things didn’t work out how Beverley expected though, and the two parties went their separate ways — Chris Bosh signed a max deal and returned to the Miami Heat and the Rockets turned their attention to Trevor Ariza, eventually signing him.

So far, both teams are off to a great start. Having played earlier today on NBA TV, a Rockets victory propelled them to 5-0, the best record in the NBA, while the Heat are now 3-1, tied for best in the East with the Raptors.
