The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to pursue Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo next summer.
The Los Angeles Lakers are an absolute mess right now. Kobe Bryant and Co. have lost their first five games of the season and there’s little reason to believe this team can turn it around this season.

But brighter days might be ahead. The Lakers could conceivably be loaded with cap space following this season, giving them an opportunity to make a push for a top free agent in 2015.
Among those top free agents that the Lakers are expected to pursue: Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo.
Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated is reporting that multiple executives believe the Lakers will make a “strong run” at Rondo:
"There is one player who makes sense in LA next season: Rajon Rondo. Several rival executives believe the Lakers will make a strong run at Rondo next summer, and it’s easy to see why. Rondo is young (28), plays a critical position and shares the same win-at-all-bleeping-cost attitude as Bryant. The Celtics are rebuilding and have a young playmaker in Marcus Smart, which may limit their desire to hand Rondo max money."
As Mannix notes, the Lakers had cap space this past offseason and failed to secure a top talent, so Rondo-to-L.A. is far from a lock.
But if the Lakers are going to compete during Bryant’s last few seasons in the NBA, there’s no doubt they need to add a talent like Rondo. So it makes all the sense in the world that the Lakers are planning a strong push for his services.
Rondo is averaging 8.0 points, 11.7 assists and 8.7 rebounds per game this season.
