St. Louis Won’t Lose The Rams Without A Fight
By Cory Buck
The St. Louis Rams are widely rumored to be a potential candidate for relocation to Los Angeles, but not if St. Louis and Missouri politicians have a say in the matter.
St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke would be the perfect villain for another Major League movie. He clearly wants to move his NFL team out of St. Louis and into Los Angeles or some other large market that would build him a pretty new football stadium and if that move comes at the expense of his home town, then so be it. Of course if Kroenke is going to be said villain, he’d have to be the man in the shadows. For all the talk of his shady intentions, no one can seem to pin the guy down for an interview.

Ken Belson at The New York Times wrote an excellent piece on Kroenke’s quiet pursuit for an NFL team in Los Angeles. The Rams owner also owns the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL, the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, the Colorado Rapids of the MLS and Arsenal in the EPL. The clear tie between all those clubs? Much like the Rams, they’re run cheaply with low payrolls and lower success rates (save, perhaps, for Arsenal, which is one of the big boys in the EPL, which comes with a large amount of spending tied to it).
Additionally, Kroenke bought a large plot of land in Los Angeles tied to other developers looking to build a new stadium with which to lure an NFL team. The purchase has St. Louis residents understandably anxious.
Now it appears Kroenke, who kind of looks like Kyle Orton’s dad, is quietly maneuvering to move the Rams and while city and state politicians will work as hard as they can to prevent that from happening, it will ultimately be up to the rest of the NFL owners to decide the fate of football in St. Louis.
