New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady played the role of Captain Obvious when he said that opposing defensive backs “panic” at the thought of defending tight end Rob Gronkowski.

You don’t say, eh, Tom?

“Imagine trying to cover that,” Brady said. “He just gets great body position, and I think that’s a big part of it because he’s such a big guy, it’s hard to go through him. He’s 6-7, 260 pounds, so if he can get himself in the right position and get the defender where he wants him in the right place in the route, the defender can’t do anything about it.”

Gronkowski has been the key weapon during Brady’s five-game crime wave against opposing defenses, pulling in 36 passes for 516 yards and five scores. He began the season with a knee injury that limited him, but has seen his snaps climb up as his health has improved.

Oh, there’s also this catch from last Sunday’s win over the

Denver Broncos

that bolsters Brady’s take. With Gronkowski’s size and athleticism, it’s almost like imaging if Ivan Drago chose to break the will of defensive backs rather than the neck of Apollo Creed:

Teammate Darrelle Revis also echoed Brady’s sentiments.

“I wouldn’t blame them for panicking,” Revis said. “The guy is 6-foot-7, he can run, he’s explosive.

The AFC East-leading Patriots are on bye this week. They’ll return to putting fear in defenses when they take on the Colts November 16.
