Boston Bruins are giving David Krejci full recovery time rather than rushing him back

The Boston Bruins have never had to deal with long-term absences from alternate captain David Krejci, but this season has seen him in and out of the lineup with alarming regularity.

The Bruins aren’t alone in the NHL with a slew of injuries, but they’re still feeling the hurt. Captain and top-pairing defenseman Zdeno Chara is out for his longest stretch since coming to the team, and fellow blue-liner Torey Krug is out with one of the most horrifying broken fingers on the planet.

Head coach Claude Julien isn’t going to use the injury count to rush someone like Krejci back before he’s ready, though.

The team was reassured by Krejci’s return to the Bruins’ practice on Wednesday morning, but his no-contact play leads both fans and the front office to believe that he’s not quite ready to come back. Luckily, missing the team’s matchup against the Edmonton Oilers would give him a full ten days’ recovery time- something that not many players are able to afford during the season.

The injury, which has only been classified as lower-body, has kept Krejci out day-to-day multiple times already this season. Not exactly good news for the Czech forward, who signed a multi-year contract extension to start off the season.
