Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers took an elbow to the jaw from the Golden State Warriors‘ Stephen Curry, and a foul was called on Paul instead.

The rivalry between NBA point guards Chris Paul and Stephen Curry is alive and well. During the Golden State Warriors’ 121-104 thrashing of the Los Angeles Clippers, Curry elbowed Paul in the face late in the third quarter, and a technical foul was called on Paul when he complained to the referees afterwards.

Curry apologized after the game for the elbow. Paul replied “It doesn’t make my jaw feel any better.”

Paul missed his first six shots and struggled for most of the game, finishing with 15 points and 12 assists. Curry went 9-for-18 on shooting, scoring 28 points to help lead the Warriors to an easy victory, and a 4-0 start to the season. Jamal Crawford led the Clippers with 24 points off the bench.

The loss lead to an angry rant from Clippers head coach Doc Rivers after the game, who was upset with the lack of competitiveness from his 3-2 team.

“Right now this is not the same group from last year and it’s the same group,” Rivers said, “so we have to figure it out.”
