There are many who believe the Cleveland Cavaliers’ biggest weakness is their inability to defend the rim and will get exposed as other team continue to get to the cup.
There have been several rumors the Cavaliers cant make a move for a big man but it might be some time before that happens.
“Well, nobody’s really on the block at this point, since we’re still more than a month away from that magic December 15th date when teams can trade most of their offseason signees, as I mentioned earlier,” writes Myron. “And it depends on the size of the trade the Cavs would be willing to make. Would it be a deal that fits into their roughly $5MM Keith Bogans trade exception or a larger deal that sees Tristan Thompson head the other direction.”
Myron cites the Bucks and Kings as two teams to look out for in a potential deal.
“I’d keep my eye on the Bucks and Kings, both of whom have a surplus of big men, Myron explains. “John Henson isn’t getting minutes in Milwaukee so far this season, which has been surprising, and he’d fit into that Bogans exception. Maybe another one of their bigs, like Ersan Ilyasova or Larry Sanders, if Cleveland’s looking at a more large-scale deal. Carl Landry and Jason Thompson don’t seem to fit in Sacramento. But, again, just my speculation.”
Henson hasn’t gotten a lot of hype but he has been a very good defender and rebounder thus far in his career and would be an obvious help to the Cavaliers. Ilyasova could work as a stretch four but certainly wouldn’t provide interior defense. Still, he could knock down open shots. Thompson has been highly criticized for his contract, but we be a good fit. Landry is undersized but has been productive in the past. The troubled Larry Sanders is the best of the bunch and is an elite defensive player when healthy.
