After failing to sign center Chris Bosh or forward Carmelo Anthony, trading center Omer Asik and point guard Jeremy Lin and losing forward Chandler Parsons, the Houston Rockets were expected to take a step back.
Instead, their prized free agent signing has been excellent and the Rockets can make a case that they have been the best team in the NBA so far. They are 5-0 and have a blowout victory over the Miami Heat on their resume.
Perhaps the biggest reason for their success is center Dwight Howard, who is now in his second year with the club. He’s averaging 17.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game on the year. Plus, he’s back to being an excellent defender.
Aside from his reputation as an incredible defender (he’s been named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year three time), he has been known as a bit of a goof who simply likes to have a good time.
This time, the NBA store had a good time with him.
Howard was looking at hats on heads that were supposed to be mannequins but one of the mannequins was a child and he popped out and scared Howard. Howard screamed and jumped away before laughing.
