The Philadelphia Eagles top two quarterbacks are now Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley, both former USC Trojans
When Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Nick Foles went down with a broken collarbone in their 31-21 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, that thrust Mark Sanchez into the role. That also left Matt Barkley as the backup.

Barkley, in his second NFL season, was almost a forgotten man behind Foles and Sanchez. He played a little bit in 2013, going 30-49 for 300 yards no touchdowns and four interceptions. However per the LA Times, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly in his press conference this week, didn’t want to go into this season without a seasoned quarterback behind Foles.
"We have confidence in Matt, but we didn’t want to go in with just Nick and Matt"
Matt Barkley has not had a chance to get into a game yet in the 2014 season but he is just now one bad hit away from getting in to a game. Of course a bad performance by Sanchez could also thrust Barkley back into the starting role. It doesn’t appear Foles will be back until the last week or two of the season at the earliest.
Matt Barkley had a very decorated career at USC, throwing for 12,327 yards 116 touchdowns and 48 interceptions in four seasons. The NFL is a different beast but the Eagles at this point have no other choice but to go with him if something happens.
We may never see Matt Barkley play a down but if he does we’ll see just how much confidence Kelly has in him. Remember Eagles fans, one play away.
