The Houston Rockets pulled off a trade with the

Oklahoma City Thunder

to acquire guard James Harden in 2012, then convinced center Dwight Howard to leave the

Los Angeles Lakers

for the Rockets in 2013. In 2014, they were looking to make another move and they targeted two superstars. Unfortunately for the Rockets, forward Carmelo Anthony re-signed with the

New York Knicks

and center Chris Bosh decided to remain with the

Miami Heat

(it didn’t hurt that each of them offered giant five-year deals while the Rockets could offer just a four-year deal.

Many believed that meant the Rockets would take a step back. They traded center Omer Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans and dealt point guard Jeremy Lin to the Lakers. They signed Trevor Ariza away from the Washington Wizards but lost Chandler Parsons to the Dallas Mavericks.

Although the Rockets have been fantastic, starting 5-0, they likely still want to make a major move.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Rockets will be looking for help and have a major trade exception that could help them do just that.

“The Rockets have certainly started well, but I still think this team isn’t good enough to get past the Western Conference Finals,” writes Myron. “And it would be a major victory for them if they got that far. I think they should and will be looking for significant trades this season, and they have a trade exception worth about $8.4MM from Jeremy Lin to help them do that.”

It would make sense the Rockets would still pursue a third star to add to Harden and Howard. Names like Boston Celtics‘ point guard Rajon Rondo have been tossed around in connection with the Rockets.
