Jerry Jones has stood by Tony Romo through thick and thin, and doesn’t believe his quarterback will be retiring from his back injuries.
When the Dallas Cowboys kept losing under Tony Romo, there was one man who unequivocally stood by his quarterback. Jerry Jones never gave up on Tony ROmo and is now expecting that Romo won’t give up on him or the Cowboys.
Tony Romo has already had two back surgeries and injured it again in a loss to Washington by the time he is 34, but Jerry Jones doesn’t expect his $108 million dollar expenditure to leave anytime soon. Jones told ESPN this:
"“I think it’s realistic for him to play five more years,” Jones said. “I’m aware of his back. Only God knows what is in store for his back. I’ve seen backs out there that you wouldn’t believe how they look on the MRIs and how they look on X-rays.”“I’m planning on him having at least five years of playing at a level that would allow us to be possible contenders from that position, and maybe not doing some things that he had earlier as well or maybe with the energy or the efficiency he has, but maybe doing other things better. That’s [what] happens in the NFL with players who play that position.”"
It seems as if the long-time manager of Americas team has finally got some optimism now that the Boys’ in blue are likely not to finish 8-8. It seems as if some fans tend to forget just how good Romo is, he continuously puts his team in positions to win games and if Romo does stay for another five years, don’t be surprised if we finally get to see a Dallas playoff win.
I don’t know about another five years with the way Romo gets hurt, but if the line continues to protect him like they can, don’t be surprised if we see Romo around for at least a few more years.
In the short-term, Dallas fans shouldn’t be worried. The Cowboys play game in London against Jacksonville, which should be an easy win with or without Romo who is listed as questionable.
