Now, we know what James and Irving talked about.
From Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com:
"LeBron James challenged Kyrie Irving to be a better playmaker following the Cavaliers’ blowout loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, league sources told Northeast Ohio Media Group.(…)One source said James viewed Tuesday’s 19-point thumping as the perfect time to address his concerns with how his point guard went about getting guys involved in the offense, and he challenged Irving to get better."
Irving left the arena without talking to the media following the talk with LeBron.
There’s no doubt that Irving needs to do a better job of running the offense and getting teammates involved. The Cavaliers have perhaps the greatest collection of talent in the NBA, yet aren’t moving the ball well. Cleveland had six assists total during the team’s loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. That falls heavily on Irving.
Good on LeBron for addressing his concerns with the offense early on in the season instead of letting it continue to grow into a greater issue.
This season, LeBron is averaging 23.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists and Irving is averaging 22.0 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds.
