Lovie Smith: Mike Glennon Still QB Of The Future
By Cory Buck
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith said his demotion of second-year QB Mike Glennon doesn’t mean Glennon isn’t the team’s quarterback of the future.
For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, being the quarterback of the future on a 1-7 club doesn’t mean you’re the quarterback of the present. That distinction apparently is reserved for the grizzled journeyman veteran. At least that’s what coach Lovie Smith would have us believe after he once again dubbed second-year QB Mike Glennon the QB of the future after he benched Glennon for the second time in 2014.

The Buccaneers needed a spark in August. What they need now is a full on colonoscopy to clean out the heaping mess that is this team in general. Whether it’s Glennon or Josh McCown lining up under center, the team has largely been a disaster and it’s curious to see them basically rule out the younger quarterback in the name of needing a spark.
At 1-7, this team might as well keep going downward with the hope of finding a true QB of the future in the 2015 NFL draft. The higher they pick, the closer they can get to one of the premier QBs projected to be available in this draft. For now though, we’ll all just have to accept the facade that is the Josh McCown Era in Tampa — at least until the team needs a spark once more and turns back to Glennon.
