Although the Seattle Seahawks’ dominant defense and their young quarterback Russell Wilson have gotten the bulk of the credit, publicity and notoriety, running back Marshawn Lynch has been a huge key to their success. He’s rushed for at least 1,200 yards in each of the last three seasons and is just short of the pace he needs to do it for a fourth consecutive season.

However, he is now 28 and in his eighth NFL season, which for a running back is fairly old. He’s taken a lot of hits over the years and continues to look for a big money contract, which has caused many to speculate he is in his final season in Seattle. If it’s up to Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, Lynch won’t be going anywhere for some time.

According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, Bevell believes Lynch is the best player on the Seahawks’ offense.

"One interesting comment came when Bevell was asked about how often Marshawn Lynch is getting the ball of late as a receiver — Lynch caught five passes for a team-high 76 yards against the Raiders and leads Seattle with three receiving touchdowns this season.“We want to use our good players,” Bevell said. “And he’s definitely, probably the best player on our offense and we want to get him the ball as many ways as we can.”"

That’s very high praise from Bevell but has some truth to it. One of the reasons the Seahawks are just 5-3, have lost a home game and no longer look like the favorite to win the Super Bowl is because their running game has slowed somewhat this season. To truly get back to Super Bowl form, the Seahawks need to get Lynch and the running game going.
