Boston Celtics rookie point guard Marcus Smart made a promise to his mom that if he ever made it to the NBA, he would buy her a house.  Now Smart has made good and his mom is close to taking ownership of the house he bought.

His mom is expected to take ownership after Thanksgiving.  The closing takes place on November 17th.  He told masslive.com he likes the house she picked out.

"She picked out an awesome place. It’s incredible. I love it, so she did a good job"

Smart is amongst those athletes who understand where they come from and how they got there.  Smart understands how important is it to recognize the job parents do raising their kids.  Now he gets the chance to take care of her.

"It was crazy. I looked at my mom and she was smiling from ear to ear. And my dad. And I just felt proud,” he said. “It’s probably one of the biggest accomplishments as a young man, is to give your mom what she always wanted. And to take care of her, especially after she takes care of you all those years. And to make her happy. It’s a blessing. I thank God every day for the opportunity to be able to do something like that"

He’s just starting out as a rookie but maybe he can continue to take care of her by other means going forward.  He is just five games into his NBA career though.  Not a bad start for a backup with his current numbers.  He is averaging 9.4 points, 2.0 assists in 20.4 minutes to start off his career.
