Brennan Scarlett, the junior defensive end at Cal, has to be thinking to himself at about this point: What next? He suffered an ACL injury that has ended his season early once again. In 2013 a hand injury had him miss the entire NCAA College Football season.
Scarlett suffered the injury in the Golden Bears victory over the Washington State Cougars on October 4th. He’s not played since and now after surgery, it has been determined he will miss the rest of the season.
In five games this season, Scarlett made his mark. He had 10 tackles, two sacks, and also forced a fumble. Golden Bears head coach Sonny Dykes, per SFgate.com, said he knows he’s lost an important player on his defense.
"He was really starting to kind of come into his own"
Now Scarlett is going to have to look forward to 2014. After missing the better part of two seasons, Dykes expects him to be ready for the 2015 season.
"He’ll get through it. I expect him to have a great year next year"
As for the Golden Bears, they must continue on. They are 5-4 (3-4 in the Pac-12). They have a bye week this week but must travel to face the USC Trojans on November 15th and then home against Stanford before finishing the season at home against Brigham Young on November 29th. The Golden Bears still need one more victory to become bowl eligible.
