Carson Palmer is closing in on a contract extension to remain with the Arizona Cardinals for the remainder of his NFL career
The Arizona Cardinals and Carson Palmer are nearing an agreement on a contract extension that will prevent the team’s starting quarterback from being an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, according to Pro Football Talk.

The Cardinals are the best team in the NFC with a 7-1 record after defeating the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday and they may even be the best team in the NFL with Bruce Arians leading this team to the top of the NFC West with a balanced offense and stout run defense.
And it looks like they will be able to stay there once they lock up their veteran quarterback to an extension which Mike Florio says, “the signs currently are pointing to Palmer signing a contract extension in the very near future.”
Palmer is making $9 million in base salary this season and while Florio did not write about potential starting points or contract figures in his report other to say that a deal is probably coming at some point, it would make sense for that figure to be the starting point and for Palmer to command a salary commensurate with his performance this year.
The former No. 1 overall pick has completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,485 yards and 11 touchdowns to only two interceptions. He missed three games with a nerve issue in his arm, but returned to the lineup looking as good as ever under the watch of Arians who is on the short list to win the NFL’s Coach of the Year.
