Palmer was scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season. He is making a base salary of $9 million with an additional $1 million bonus, so he is receiving a substantial raise after a strong first half with the 7-1 Cardinals who are in first place in the NFC West and arguably the best team in the NFL through the season’s first half.
Carson Palmer has agreed to a 3 year extension with Arizona worth $50M in total. He was set to be a free agent after 2014 season

Palmer's contract includes a significant chunk of the $50M in total money payable in 2015. More than the $17M/yr average for sure

The former No. 1 overall pick has completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,485 yards and 11 touchdowns with only two interceptions in five games this season. Palmer missed games two-four with a nerve issue in his arm, but returned to the lineup looking as good as ever under the watch of Arians who is on the short list to win the NFL’s Coach of the Year.
Palmer has rejuvenated his career in Arizona after leaving the Oakland Raiders where it looked like his career was sputtering to an end. With a healthy Palmer, the Cardinals could be the team to beat in the NFC and could return to the Super Bowl with another grizzled veteran behind center like they did years ago with Kurt Warner resurrecting his career in a similar fashion as Palmer.
