The Sopranos

is widely regarded as one of the best shows in television history.

Set in New Jersey, the show focused on mob boss Tony Soprano and he dealt with running the mafia and his family, which consisted of his wife and two children.

Show creator David Chase, who based parts of Tony’s character on himself (he had panic attacks and depression in his youth), has often talked about doing a prequel to the show. Now, the 69-year old is again about a prequel to the show.

“Even if I did it, it wouldn’t be ‘The Sopranos’ that was on the air — obviously at least one person is gone that we would need,” he says via the Associated Press. “There are a couple of eras that would be interesting for me to talk about, about Newark, N.J. One would be (the) late ‘60s, early ‘70s, about all the racial animosity, or the beginning, the really true beginning of the flood of drugs.”

In fact, according to the Huffington Posthe may look to a project based on Tony Sopranos’ father or Uncle Junior, who was a big part of the series.

"Discussion of a prequel to the series first began in 2012 when Chase said he’d want to base such a project on “Tony’s father, and Uncle Junior, and Livia — Tony’s mother.” He touched on the topic again earlier this year when he said he would “maybe do a prequel” or even a movie."

I’m in. Why not?

Could it be as good as the original was? Almost assuredly no. Probably not even close. However, it would still likely be better than most shows that are on television these days.
