Derrick Rose will not play for the Chicago Bulls on Friday night against the Philadelphia 76ers with two sprained ankles

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Chicago Bulls will be without Derrick Rose for the third time in six games, including three of the last four games with two sprained ankles he aggravated in Wednesday night’s win against the Milwaukee Bucks.

More from Chicago Bulls

Rose injured his ankles in last Friday’s overtime loss to LeBron James and the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers when he only played 25 minutes. He played 21 minutes in the Bulls regular season opener against the New York Knicks before being forced out due to another injury for the wins against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic before returning to play a season-high 31 minutes against the Bucks.

In 31 minutes, Rose scored 13 points on 4-10 shooting and added a season-high seven assists but once again injuries reared their ugly head for the former MVP who has been hit with one injury after another in a highly-documented history of injuries over the last three years.

The Bulls were planning on taking a cautious approach with the former No.1 overall pick and the youngest MVP in NBA history this season and sit him so he wouldn’t be playing on back-to-back nights and restricting his minutes as he worked his way back to game shape and to get him through an 82-game schedule.

If there’s a bright side its that the Bulls likely don’t need Rose to beat the lowly 76ers, but will he suit up for Saturday’s game against the Boston Celtics or Monday’s game vs the Detroit Pistons before the Bulls visit the Indiana Pacers on Thursday?

Rose will be in and out of the lineup this season for the Bulls, it’s just something the Bulls will have to deal with, but hopefully for Rose’s sake and the sanity of the Bulls fans, no more devastating season-ending injuries hit him again.
