J.R. Smith is no stranger to phone calls from the NBA about his actions on the court, which is why his most recent suspension hardly shocked him.
When it comes to players getting cheap on the court, J.R. Smith is a poster child for those sort of antics. It’s not that he’s outwardly filthy in what he does, it’s just that the little things add up into constant annoyances. His most recent suspension came from his cheapest shot yet, as he casually smacked Washington Wizards guard Glen Rice Jr in the groin this past week while trying to get past him.

According to Newsday, J.R. Smith was not at all surprised that he was suspended by the NBA for what he claims was an accidental shot to the gross on Glen Rice Jr. this past week.
"“I don’t think it’s something that anybody saw that I was deliberate about it,” Smith said Friday. “They did. Just got to take it for what it is.”"
Smith didn’t think the play was dirty, but understands that his actions in the past coupled with how the play looks in real time, makes it appear as though it was cheap.
Here’s J.R. Smith’s explanation of the play:
"“I was trying to clear space to get as close to the basket as I could to get the shot off,” Smith said. “It definitely wasn’t anything intentional.”"
From tying together the shoelaces of opponents to moving their headbands into their eyes, Smith has been goofy on the court in a street ball hustle sort of way, but he hasn’t won over many friends in the league office and that’s clear from this latest suspension.
