Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry took a nasty elbow to the head from Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce Friday night.

More from NBA

The Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards will likely be battling for seeding in the post-season all season long, and during the first half of their game tonight it looks like they have already been turnt up to playoff basketball. The even-physical Paul Pierce laid a nasty elbow to the head of Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry in the first half.

Here is the video:

This is usually the part where I speculate if Pierce did it on purpose or not. I wish I had something else for you, but I guess I’m not that good a writer.

SPECULATION: It’s hard to say if Pierce “threw” the elbow or if it was simply an accident in the flow of the game. Watching the video, I don’t really see the need for Pierce to put his elbow out, which leads me to believe he did it on purpose. Then I’m wondering why the heck Pierce would throw an elbow when he just passed the ball. What kind of positioning is he trying to get?

I wasn’t watching–and maybe you can help me out in the comments section–but it’s possible he was getting even with Lowry for something that happened earlier in the game.

Either way, I wouldn’t put it past either of those guys to get into a physical confrontation in the second week of the season. Lowry seems fine and is still playing.
