The San Diego Chargers won’t have any blackouts in the 2014 season, which will be a first for the franchise since 2009.

For the first time in five years, local fans of the San Diego Chargers will be able to watch every home game on broadcast television. The team announced it sold enough seats in its two upcoming home games to call it for the year. With a hot start to the season, the Chargers were able to impress the locals enough to finally sell out a season. Now it’s up to Philip Rivers and company to give the people what they want.

U-T San Diego notes of the last five years, “From 2010 to 2013, the organization accounted for 10 of the 59 blackouts around the league. Half its eight home games in 2012 weren’t shown live on local television. Of its 18 home games not on primetime from 2010 to 2012, nine were blacked out. Likewise, nine of 12 games to be neither in primetime nor against a divisional opponent in that span were blacked out.”

In short, the Chargers had one of the toughest tickets to sell in the NFL. Now, thanks to an improved squad and a legitimate playoff shot — despite the team’s recent losing streak — the Chargers are drawing fans at rates not seen since the hey day of LaDainian Tomlinson.

San Diego is currently on its bye before the team returns for home games against the Oakland Raiders then the St. Louis Rams. Both, as you can guess, are sold out.
