The University of Michigan is looking for a new college football coach and Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops could be a prime candidate.
Brady Hoke is most likely coaching his final games at Michigan at the end of the season. With that, a new coach must be hired and fans and alumni will expect someone with a very solid resume unlike Hoke when he was hired in 2011. Jim and John Harbaugh have both been named candidates by the media and now Bob Stoops is new one that may get an offer from Michigan.

Yahoo’s Dan Wetzel believes that Michigan should make an attempt lure Bob Stoops from Oklahoma, where he has coached for 14 years, something I’ve been saying all season. Bob Stoops has been very impressive during his tenure at Oklahoma and no one reasonable wants him to fired, but Michigan may be able to pull him out of there. Stoops has taken Oklahoma to nine BCS bowl games in 14 seasons and has a 4-5 record including four titles game that Stoops has only won one, which many Oklahoma fans don’t love, but the fact the team has been to nine is impressive in itself.
Stoops has a current 166-41 record at Oklahoma with a .802 winning percentage and has won eight Big 12 championships and has a chance to win nine this year. Stoops and the Sooners came into the year with high expectations this season ranked fourth to start the year, but two losses this year have dropped them to 15th in the rankings. They will take on Baylor this Saturday in a game that will be overshadowed by TCU and Kansas State. Are fans getting bored with Stoops and his inability to get Oklahoma another championship (last one in 2000)? Is 54-year-old Bob Stoops getting tired of where he is and ready for a new challenge?
Look for Michigan to give Stoops a call and recruit him hard as they are desperate for a prestigious coach to take over a struggling program. Michigan hired Brady Hoke in 2011 and won the Sugar Bowl that year, but it’s only gone downhill since after going 8-5 in 2012, 7-6 in 2013, and looking at another close to .500 season at 4-5 with three games to go in the season.
Michigan is the greatest college football program in history with 914 wins, leading football. Everybody wants a chance to coach at Michigan, but the question is left whether or not Bob Stoops wants to leave such a comfortable position where he has the trust of the athletic director, president of the university and majority of the fans. Michigan’s athletic director Dave Brandon announced his resignation last week and they are also looking for a new athletic director.
Michigan needs to be active in recruiting a new coach and not lazy with the big names like Bob Stoops, Jim and John Harbaugh, Les Miles and more. A new coach with high prestige will improve the program immediately that lives and dies by fans and alumni and their approval. Look for Bob Stoops to be a strong candidate.
