The Missouri Tigers suspended cornerback Aarion Penton indefinitely after he was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of marijuana possession.

Sophomore cornerback Aarion Penton was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of marijuana possession and the University of Missouri suspended him from the football team indefinitely.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Penton was arrested on campus at 1:40 a.m. Friday. He was arrested for the same offense in March along with a teammate and two members of the Missouri basketball team, but court records indicate there was no conviction.

Penton has started all nine games for the Tigers (7-2), who lead Georgia by a half-game in the SEC’s East Division with a 4-1 record.

He leads the team with three interceptions and 10 passes defensed and is tied for the team lead with seven pass breakups. He also has 30 tackles and a forced fumble.

As a true freshman in 2013, Penton played in all 14 games and started two, finishing with 16 tackles and one pick.

Missouri is idle this weekend and doesn’t play again until Nov. 15 at Texas A&M.

Perhaps Penton should have committed to play at Colorado or Washington.

If Penton is not reinstated by then, sophomore John Gibson would likely start in his place. Gibson started the first three games of the season opposite Penton this season before he was replaced by junior Kenya Dennis.

Missouri will also be without strong safety Braylon Webb for the first half against the Aggies after he was ejected following a targeting penalty last week against Kentucky.

Because he was ejected in the second half, NCAA rules dictate his ejection spill over to the first half of the next game.
