The New York Jets‘ defense might be a bigger part of the team’s losing ways than the offense. They’ve allowed the most touchdown passes of any team this season and they’re working to break a league record on the fewest amount of takeaways.
However, that didn’t stop Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson from making a few comments about Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s ball security issues. Wilkerson was quoted in a story by Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.
"“You’ve got to make sure that, when you’re getting up close to him, you wrap him up,” Wilkerson said Thursday via ESPNNewYork. “We know that he has poor ball security as well, so get after the ball when we get close to him.”"
Technically, Wilkerson is right. Roethlisberger does have six fumbles this season and 15 fumbles through his last 25 games. On the other hand, Big Ben also has 12 touchdowns in just his last two games and 860 passing yards.
A Jets secondary consisting of cornerback Marcus Williams who is fresh off the practice squad, and Josh Thomas who was signed off the street, is probably not going to slow him down too much.
Jets coach Rex Ryan isn’t daunted either.
"“We have some guys that can play,” Ryan said this week. “They all can play.”"
The Jets will have to turn in a big effort to beat the streaking Steelers on Sunday. The Steelers have now won three straight to hold first place in the AFC North. They’ve scored at least 30 points in each of those wins.
