Charges of attempting to arrange a murder have been dropped against Paul Rudd, but the AC/DC drummer still faces charges of drug possession and making threats to kill.
Less than 24 hours after New Zealand police raided AC/DC drummer Paul Rudd’s home and charged him with attempting to arrange a murder, drug possession and making threats to kill, the lead prosecutor in the case has dropped the charges of attempting to procure a murder, citing insufficient evidence to proceed.

Rudd’s lawyer described the drug charges as minor, and indicated they would contest the charges of making threats, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail. His lawyer said Rudd suffered “incalculable” damage from charges that should not have been laid.
AC/DC issued a statement that its planned tour would not be affected; the rock band will release its next album on December 2, and Rudd is scheduled to next appear in court November 27. A recent photo of the band did not feature Rudd, leading to speculation that he is no longer in AC/DC, which has not been confirmed.
Local media said the plot by Rudd targeted two men and involved a hit man, but judges ruled the names of the targets and hit man could not be revealed. However, the alleged hit man did speak to a local paper, stating the charges were “blown out of proportion” and claiming to be a family man.
