NBA: 5 Early Darkhorse MVP Candidates
By Evan Massey
2. John Wall, Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards are one of the best up-and-coming teams in the NBA this year, but are having to play the first part of their schedule without shooting guard Bradley Beal. Not having him on the court has made John Wall realize his potential and play a bigger role than expected. He is showing that he has true number one potential, and has more confidence than ever.
Through the Wizards’ first five games, Wall has averaged 21.4 points, 10.0 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game. He has shot 47.5 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from behind the three-point arc, and is looking very much like the superstar that the Wizards thought they were drafting first overall in the 2010 NBA Draft.
Wall is going to continue being asked to continue playing at the same high level even when Beal returns. He is proving himself to be one of the NBA’s best point guards, and is entering the prime of his career at 24 years of age. Washington is finally seeing the full potential that they were expecting from Wall.
