The San Francisco 49ers officially list middle linebacker Patrick Willis as questionable for Sunday’s tilt against the New Orleans Saints in a battle of 4-4 teams teams looking to make a push for the NFL Playoffs, but he’s not likely to play with a lingering toe injury
Patrick Willis was thought to be close to a return to the middle of the 49ers defense last week against the St. Louis Rams, but he was forced to miss the NFC West matchup as the 49ers lost in the closing seconds of the game, but Willis still has not made enough progress with his injured toe he originally hurt vs. the Rams on Oct. 13 and is likely to miss Sunday’s game against the Saints.

Willis did not practice again on Friday as he’s been out of practice all week long. Willis did his rehab work in the weight room and has yet to go through a full practice since injuring the toe last month, according to Matt Maioco of CSNBayArea.com, meaning Chris Borland will make his third straight start at middle linebacker.
The rookie linebacker out of Wisconsin has played admirably in the absence of Willis, but he’s not the perennial Pro Bowl player that Willis is so there will be some challenges for Borland against the Saints offense who has their run game rolling with Mark Ingram and presents a tough matchup for the 49ers in their defense of All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham.
