In in interview with Sports Illustrated, Pierce expressed regret over leaving Boston in the trade.
"“It was a roller coaster, definitely. A lot of emotion went into it. Going through what we went through last year, I had a lot of thoughts like, ‘Shoot, I could have just stayed in Boston.’ [The Celtics] were going through some of the same things we were going through in Brooklyn. The key was to stay positive. Times change, you have to move on, and that is what I eventually did.”"
If you’re thinking that Pierce had no say over the trade, that’s an misinformed opinion to have. If Pierce didn’t want to be traded by the Celtics, he would never have ben moved. It’s also worth mentioning that Pierce was looking at Boston with regret and the Celtics weren’t particularly good last season.
Then again, he had a chance to sign with the team this offseason and he elected to sign with the Washington Wizards instead. That right there pokes a hole in the theory that Pierce misses Boston so bad that he’d play there again if he could — because he’s already decided against that.
