Ubisoft Pulls Titles From Steam

A strained relationship between Ubisoft and Steam has caused the publisher to pull three of the biggest games launching during this holiday season from the service.

As the holiday season is just around the corner, Ubisoft is ramping up with some of their biggest video games of the year. As Assassin’s Creed Unity, The Crew, and Far Cry 4 are all close to releasing, gamers are excited to get their hands on the titles. However, PC gamers won’t be able to do so through Steam.

Earlier, PCGamesN reported that the titles were no longer available on the Steam platform. If you run a search on Steam now for any of the titles, no results return.

It does appear however that any previously downloaded titles from Ubisoft are still intact and are unaffected.

At this point, Ubisoft still has each of the upcoming titles listed for sale with other online digital retailers.

Considering Ubisoft has been going back and forth with Steam causing a somewhat strenuous relationship, that is likely the cause of what we are seeing play out here. Companies like Electronic Arts sell many of their games directly through their Origin platform, but that doesn’t appear to be what is happening here.

Despite Ubisoft using their UPlay platform quite heavily throughout their games, the idea that these titles are still listed online at other retailers suggests this is more of an issue between Steam and Ubisoft than it is Ubisoft trying to limit who sells their games.

At any rate, this is a blow to PC gamers as Steam is currently one of the most go-to places for gamers to buy new games online. With Ubisoft pulling their titles, those gamers will have to turn elsewhere.
